It’s no surprise that the majority of people feel they aren’t getting enough sleep or that the quality of their sleep isn’t as good as it should be. People turn to pills, meditation, and so much more in an attempt to improve their sleep. The most important factor you’re probably overlooking is your mattress. Of course, comfort is important, but did you know that these 5 reasons could also explain why your mattress is having an effect on your sleep?
1. Allergens
Dust mites build up in a mattress overtime along with other allergens. Even if you aren’t a seasonal allergy sufferer, you could be noticing symptoms from the allergens in your mattress. A stuffy nose or itchy eyes are sure to disrupt you from a good slumber.
2. Stress
Multiple studies have shown that buying a new mattress lowers stress levels. If you find yourself lying awake at night with racing thoughts and anxiety, a new mattress may be the cure you need. Your quality of sleep will improve which naturally improves your mood. A new mattress will also help relieve back and neck pain that may be causing you stress without you even realizing it.
3. “Medium-Firm” isn’t the Same for Everyone
A lot of people fail to spend enough time testing out their mattress before purchasing. Terms like medium-firm and ultra-plush are enough to draw you in and convince you that’s what you need, but it isn’t that simple. Everybody has a different idea of comfort in mind. Instead of settling for a tag that says medium-firm, spend 20 minutes testing out multiple mattresses before you buy.
4. Restlessness
Just because your mattress isn’t showing physical signs of wear and tear doesn’t mean you don’t need a new one. If you find yourself tossing and turning throughout the night, your mattress could be the cause. If you feel that your sleep quality just isn’t as good as it once was, it’s time to start thinking about a new mattress.
5. Distraction
Using your bed for things other than sleep and intimacy makes it harder to fall asleep at bedtime. Your brain will become distracted and associate the bed with work or other activities, rather than sleep. Purchasing a new mattress is a great way to hit the reset button and break those unhealthy habits.
