A new study was done recently that linked the effects of poor sleep to brain damage. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine studied brain activity of mice that were subjected to different levels of sleep loss. They found that prolonged periods without sleep impaired neurological cell function and lead to the death of brain cells.
It is not known whether these effects will translate to humans but research is ongoing to answer these questions. To read more in depth about this study, read the article here.
